De Ja Vu

Its true that history seems to repeat itself, in 2000 there were allegations of voter fraud and the hanging chad controversy. In 2004 some critics alleged that the pattern of voter disenfranchisement is by design, having disproportionately affected racial minorities and/or urban precincts, and this year we are already seeing the lawyers lining up to contest this years mid term elections because of faulty electronic voting machines.  Long gone are the days where one could simply vote and wait for the outcome, to simply allow the political process to work.    Unfortunately the quest for power in today's political landscape seems to have those wanting to obtain it to set aside their ethics in the name of democracy and do what it takes to seize the minds of the voter.  The Mark Foley scandal is a clear example of one party allegedly waiting for the right moment to release information about one senator's inappropriate behavior toward congressional pages.  If it becomes apparent that this information had been held, when ethically it should have been reported when evidence of the Congressman's actions were first reported.  Then the fact that the information was held for political gain is just as wrong as the behavior of the congressman.  The saying goes Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, I would add that the quest for that power corrupts just as much if not more.  Is there game playing on both sidces of the aisle, I would assert that there is, how ever its apparent that the liberal left seem to take a win at all cost attitude, crossing ethical lines in the name of power.  This election means more than just the gain or loss of a few seats in either house, its is a fight for the safety and security of this country.  Beacase as President Bush has stated,"If we don't fight the terrorists over there, we'll end up fighting them here."  I for one cannot stand the prospect of bringing our troops home before victory is accomplished and thus emboldining the enemy to commit acts so violent that it would make 911 seem insignificant by comparison.  What is at stake in this election is the preservation of freedom both in Iraq and around the world.
